anon_DEMimport

Usage

Japanese

Setup

  1. When extracting the archive, "anon_DEMimport.p" file is generated. Move this file to the optional folder (it's generally "Lightwave\Programs\Plugins\Model").
  2. Start Modeler, and include "anon_WSheet.p" in command of [Modeler] - [Plug-ins] - [Add Plug-ins].
  3. [Digital Elevation Model importer] plug-in becomes to include in Modeler.

Starting method

  1. In Modeler, choose the command of [Construct] - [Additional] - [Digital Elevation Model importer].
  2. It may be useful if subscribing in the menu of [File] - [Import] by the command of [Configure Menus] beforehand.

Getting DEMs

  1. 'Numerical map 50m mesh, Japan' distributed from Geographical Survey Institute (GSI) can be bought at the map shops all around of Japan. It can be also bought from Japan Map Center using the online shopping.
It's covering various parts of Japan by three sheets of CD-ROMs (each of 7,500yen). The resolution of the meshes is 2.25 seconds (east and west) and 1.5 seconds (north and south), it's about 50m square.
  2. When reading data crossing more than one CD-ROM, copy the contents of the CD-ROM into the optional folder of the hard disk beforehand.
  3. 'GTOPO30' distributed from U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) can be downloaded from http://edcdaac.usgs.gov/gtopo30/gtopo30.html free.
It's covering a whole world in 33 files.
The resolution of the meshes is 30 seconds square (it's about 1km near Japan).
  4. Extracting the downloaded data, and move *.DEM files to the optional folder.

Making preview data

  1. Start up "MakePrev.exe" bundled in archive.
  2. Create preview data according to the instruction of the application.
In case of 'GTOPO30', It's created "DEMPrev_GTOPO30.raw". In case of 'Numerical map 50m mesh, Japan', It's created "DEMPrev_MEM50.raw".
Move these files into the folder of LightWave (it's generally "C:\Lightwave").
Incidentally, the size of preview data become 16MB.
  3. However there isn't the preview data, Digital Elevation Model importer can be working.
  4. Be careful. It isn't compatible with the preview data for Ver. 0.41α or below.

Importing

Basic options
  1. Start up Digital Elevation Model importer on Modeler
  2. Select the type of DEM to import by [Data Type].
Importing 'Numerical map 50m mesh', select [GSI MEM]. Importing 'GTOPO30', select [USGS DEM].
  3. Specify the place of the data at [Data Directory]
If you use 'Numerical map 50m mesh', select root of CD-ROM or the folder in the hard disk drive copied data.
If you use 'GTOPO30', choose the folder including DEM data.
  4. Input the center of importing range at [Center Longitude] and [Center Latitude].
  5. Input the size of importing area at [Longitude Width] and [Latitude Width].
When using 'Numerical map 50m mesh', it's also able to be input by kilometers.
  6. Select the coordinate system by [Coordinate].
When specifying [PROJECTION], it's imported on the plane which is projected by the equidistant cylindrical projection.
When specifying [GEOCENTRIC], it's imported on the spherical surface which is 6,400 kilometers radius.
  7. Input the mesh resolution at [Mesh resolution] (10 - 512).
  8. Input the magnifying ratio at [Scale].
  9. To begin importing, click [OK].

Advanced option Advanced option

  1. Click [Advanced option] on the main panel to open the option panel.
  2. Checking on [Trianglation], the imported model is trianglated. Not checking, it becomes a square polygon.
  3. Checking on [Sea polygon], the part of the imported model where doesn't have data is as the sea. Not checking, it's pulled out.
  4. Checking on [Named surface], the imported surface is named. Not checking, all surfaces are imported as Default.
  5. Checking on [Vertex color], the imported model is applied by the vertex colors according to an altitude.
  6. Checking on [Output texture], it's created the bitmap according to an altitude. The imported model is also applied by UV map.

Using preview

  1. If there is the preview data, it's showed on the preview area.
  2. In [Select] mode, you can specify the importing range with dragging on the map. The selected range is reflected in the numeric box above the panel.
  3. In [Zoom] mode, you can magnify the preview with clicking on the map. You can reduce it with clicking with [Ctrl] key.
  4. In [Move] mode, you can move the viewing area with dragging on the map.
