Greetings

I am truly grateful for this first job since resuming my composing activities.

Now, the genre of this game is “otome game”.
That's what I was told when I received the request for the music.
However...
In reality, it is a Hong Kong noir-style work with a hard-boiled female protagonist.

This “Hong Kong noir” style was the key point in composing this piece, but I am ashamed to say that I did not know what “Hong Kong noir” was at first.
It was through the materials I received from Kelly that I first learned about the “Hong Kong Noir” genre.
(To Kelly: I'm sorry for saying, “Should we make this song Chinese-style?”)

This time, I composed four songs. Initially, there were three songs: “Opening”, “Final Battle”, and “Ending”.
I started with the ‘motif’ and composed “Final Battle.”
After sending the data, when I saw the words “Shiono-style” in Kelly's reply, I felt relieved and at the same time, my tear ducts loosened.

After that, I continued composing the “ending” and ‘title’ songs, but I had to pause for a moment with the “title” song... Perhaps because I went overboard, the title song was too flashy, and Kelly gave me a yellow card.
I quickly created a quiet song and received approval.
This original title screen song was used in the second trailer and the opening club scene.(Kelly's note: This song is Red Spider. It is not used in the remastered version, but it is included in the soundtrack.)

I am writing this casually, but I cannot express how much Kelly has helped me to get to this point.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to her, as well as to everyone who has had the opportunity to experience this work.

I will continue to work hard on my compositions so that “Shiono-style” will remain in your hearts. Please continue to support me.

Please enjoy “Red Spider” at your leisure.

About the game

My favorite character in this series is Lai. I can't go into too much detail for those who haven't read the main story yet, but his thoughtful care for Yvet, his feelings based on their past connection, and his usual responses to everyone made me think, “I would be popular if I were like him.”
Everyone around him except Yvet is male, but he is probably the most well-balanced man.

The scene that really struck me was at the end, when Yvet recalls Lai's words, “Lycoris. I'm sure that's not what Francis would have wanted.”
For details, please refer to the Lai route in the main game.

Future activities

I hope that many people will learn about Shiono, and I will continue to study every day so that you can be moved by Shiono-style in the future.
Please support my future activities.

Thank you for purchasing the production support version and/or responding to the questionnaire. It is a great encouragement to us.

After completing the full voiceover for the final installment of the series, “Red Spider 3”, in 2018, I began working on a new series. I had planned to set the story in Hong Kong, with a group of five men and women led by singer-songwriter Teresa solving various mysteries, but then something very sad happened in Hong Kong, and I was so shocked that I couldn't continue writing the story.

I would occasionally muster up the courage to rewrite it, but I just couldn't get the words to flow, and my work remained stalled. Then, in 2023, I came across comments from fans who had discovered the Red Spider series and were raving about it.

Her comment encouraged me, and I finally felt motivated to create a new work. However, there was one more issue. The old series used abstract graphics so that readers could freely imagine the story, but unfortunately, I felt that those graphics often discouraged people from reading it.

Therefore, I thought that if I were to create a new work, I would have to make the graphics fairly detailed. However, since I am not very good at drawing, it was difficult for me to create such game graphics.

Fortunately, AI drawing has made it easy to create backgrounds, and 3D avatar creation tools now allow us to create character images. However, the concern was whether it would be possible for a single person to create a large number of images combining those characters and backgrounds.

So, I decided to try making a very short work first. That was “Red Spider Anecdote: The Longest Nite”.

I managed to finish “Red Spider Anecdote: The Longest Nite”, and luckily it was well received. So, I decided to remake the old works to get more people to read the Red Spider series.

When producing the remastered version, one of our main goals was to resolve the issue that had been most troubling us: the lack of consistency in the main voice cast throughout the series.

Even though we've lost contact with a lot of the voice actors, with the help of the old cast and new cast, we're finally able to get all the voices for the remastered version.

And while working on “Red Spider Anecdote: The Longest Nite”, I also encountered “Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In”. This film, which powerfully declares that Hong Kong cinema is far from dead, gave me courage.

I think this movie will inspire not only me but everyone who sees it. It is a masterpiece that comes along once every 20 years, so please be sure to see it.

The situation remains difficult. Nevertheless, I will continue to work hard to complete the remastered version for now, without giving up hope.

    Please continue to follow us.
