DxCamRec - Network camera recorder
==========================================================

What is it?
-----------
DxCamRec keeps recording the video and audio of network cameras (RTSP / ONVIF)
on your PC.
  - Records several cameras at once and splits the recordings into .ts files,
for example one per hour. Video is saved as received, without re-encoding,
so quality is preserved and CPU usage stays low.
  - Supports H.264 / H.265 video and G.711 (PCMA/PCMU) / AAC audio.
  - Shows the video in a window, also for cameras that are not recording.
Cameras with pan/tilt (PTZ) can be aimed from the window.
  - When a camera reports an ONVIF event (person, line crossing, ...),
mails pictures of that moment (Gmail and others).
  - Deletes the oldest recordings automatically when free space runs low.
  - Finds cameras on the network and obtains their stream URLs automatically.
  - Extracts a time range of the recordings into one file, without re-encoding.

Install
-------
Double-click DxCamRec-1.6.0.msi and follow the instructions.
(Administrator rights are requested.)
The installer shows English or Japanese automatically, following the
Windows display language.
On the "Options" page you can choose a desktop shortcut and whether DxCamRec
starts when Windows starts.

Unattended install from the command line:
  msiexec /i DxCamRec-1.6.0.msi /qn
(Add AUTOSTART="" to skip the automatic start, DESKTOPSHORTCUT="" to skip
 the desktop shortcut.)

Running the MSI of a newer version updates the installed copy. The settings
are kept.

Uninstall
---------
Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select "DxCamRec" and uninstall it.
The settings and logs (below) are kept. Delete them by hand if not needed.

Settings and logs
-----------------
  C:\ProgramData\DxCamRec\DxCamRec.ini settings (cameras, mail, ...)
C:\ProgramData\DxCamRec\logs\ logs (one file per day)
Recordings are saved to the folder set for each camera.

Getting started
---------------
  1. Add a camera with "Cameras..." > "Add...". "Search..." looks for cameras
     on the network.
  2. The button in the "Status" column starts and stops recording; the one
left of the camera name shows the video. Right-click a camera for more.
"Record all" and "Stop all" control every camera at once.
  3. Choose "Start recording on startup" under "Settings" to start recording
whenever DxCamRec starts. Automatic cleanup and mail notification are
     under "Settings" as well.
(If "Start DxCamRec when Windows starts" was chosen during setup,
recording also resumes after the PC restarts, for example after a
      power cut.)
  4. The close button (x) only hides the window. Recording continues and
DxCamRec stays in the notification area, next to the clock. Click the
icon to bring the window back, or right-click it for "Record all",
"Stop all" and "Exit". Use "Exit" there to close DxCamRec for good.
The icon shows a red lamp while recording and a dark one while idle.
(On Windows 11 the icon may be hidden behind the "^" button. To show it
always, right-click the taskbar > Taskbar settings > Other system
      tray icons.)
  5. "Video" > "Extract a clip..." makes one .ts file per selected camera from
a start and end date and time, even across the hourly files. Nothing is
re-encoded, so the quality is that of the recording and it is quick. The
clip starts at the last keyframe before the start time. Cameras that are
recording can be used too; recording does not stop.

Requirements
------------
  - 64-bit Windows 10 / 11
  - Network cameras with RTSP (H.264 / H.265)
  - Showing H.265 video on screen requires the "HEVC Video Extensions".
Many PCs have the free manufacturer edition installed. Recording alone
    does not need it.

Language
--------
  - English or Japanese is chosen automatically from the Windows display
language. The button at the top right of the main window also switches it.
